From The Owner

Hello Avid Beaders + Firefly Carrboro Supporters! If you're new to the shop, here is a brief history about us:

Firefly Carrboro was originally known as The Original Ornament, which believe it or not, was located on the famous Franklin Street in Chapel Hill at one point before making its home in Carr Mill Mall. Eventually, The Original Ornament faded into The Bead Store and around 2009, The Bead Store became Firefly Carrboro. Despite all the of the name changes, the store has continued to stay true to its commitment to keep the local community and beyond creative and inspired! From advanced beaders to new beginners. Even if you're not a beader, we have and will always continue to be here for your repair needs, or your "Shop Handmade" needs! 

Recently, Firefly Carrboro has fallen under new ownership. Owner, Melanie Jackson, bought the shop in January 2020 but has worked at Firefly Carrboro on and off for 8 years prior while balancing being a stay-at-home-mom. She's still doing a bit of that and when she's not staying busy with her two young boys, you will find her staying quite busy at the shop!

If Melanie is not in when you stop in or give the shop a call, our Manager and very talented designer, Sidra, is around to help you. Having been around since the days of The Bead Store, Sidra will be able to guide and direct you regarding methods and techniques as well as material choices. Between the two of these skilled craftswomen, you will most likely walk away satisfied with a project completion or finished piece of jewelry, whether you made it, they repaired it, or you bought a locally made or Fair Trade product.

Here at Firefly Carrboro, we sell a huge variety of beads, jewelry supplies, parts, components and tools for jewelry making as well as locally made art, fair trade beaded gifts, and more! We are also available for jewelry repairs or custom projects.
